With pylons higher than the Eiffel Tower, Turkey’s Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, also called the Third Bosphorus Bridge, is the tallest suspension bridge in the world. As environmental
and social consultant on the project, which involved construction of the rail-motorway bridge and connecting Northern Marmara Motorway, AECOM assessed and documented
the potential environmental and social impacts of the development. With some of the construction taking place in environmentally sensitive areas, we suggested ways the client could prevent, avoid, reduce or compensate for any adverse impacts. Opened in August 2016, the bridge together with the connecting motorway has become one of Turkey’s most iconic
infrastructure projects, providing a vital transportation link between Istanbul’s Asian and European sides.
