AECOM provided engineering services to Hydro-Quebec, a government-owned public utility, for its $1.2 billion underground power plant, Peribonka IV. The plant, located in Quebec, Canada, has a total capacity of 385 Megawatts.
We were responsible for the detailed engineering design, which included preparing the plans and specifications and providing technical support for construction. AECOM installed more than 30,000 cubic meters of reinforced concrete with over 2,400 tons of reinforcing steel. The project was completed in 2008 and put into service three months ahead of schedule—feeding 85,000 households in Quebec.
In November 2008, the project was awarded the “Armatura Award in the Civil Engineering category for Major Projects” by the Institut d’acier d’armature du Quebec, an organization that services the steel reinforcement industry. The following year, it received the “Leonard Trophy in the Energy Category” from the Association des ingenieurs-conseils du Quebec, a consulting engineering association.
