A team composed of AECOM and Berger, Lehman Associates, P.C., has been designated for a contract from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) to provide construction engineering and inspection services for the Interstate 95 (I-95) New Haven Harbor Crossing (NHHC) Corridor Improvement Program.

The award – which is expected to be worth approximately US$60 million when signed – is part of the program’s Contract E, which covers the reconstruction of the I-95/I-91/Route 34 Interchange. The interchange project has a total construction value of approximately US$600 million. AECOM’s revenue on the project is expected to be approximately US$25 million.

“We are excited to be chosen for this important roadway improvement project, which will greatly enhance traffic operations in the New Haven area,” said AECOM President and Chief Executive Officer John M. Dionisio. “We are proud to support ConnDOT in this effort.”

The project includes the reconfiguration of the interchange to eliminate the left lane exit and entrance ramps and provides for two-lane interstate-to-interstate connections. The reconstruction will provide three travel lanes on I-95 through the interchange, and includes 21 new or modified bridges, 21 retaining walls, new drainage systems, signing and lighting. Construction of the interchange is slated to begin during March 2011 and is scheduled for completion during November 2016.

ConnDOT’s I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program is a multi-modal transportation-improvement program that features public transit enhancements and roadway improvements along 7.2 miles of I-95 between Exit 46 in New Haven and Exit 54 in Branford. It has a total construction value of approximately US$2 billion, making it the largest project of its kind ever undertaken by the state.
