The Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit project in Malaysia won two awards at the Asia Geospatial Excellence Awards 2017 recently for its extensive and innovative use geospatial technology across the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line.rnrn

The categories won are: Transport Infrastructure and Digital Engineering.

The Transport Infrastructure award, conferred to MRT Corp, recognises the project’s BIM Level 2 implementation throughout the design and construction of the SSP Line, which BIM enables advanced 3D modelling of structures or spaces and is used at the design and construction stages of a project.

The second award, Digital Engineering, for which AECOM is a joint recipient along with MGKT and MRT Corp., recognises the use of GIS in the construction of the SSP Line which is an advanced mapping tool that is designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyse and present all types of geographical data.

Barry Sum, Senior Vice President, Transportation & Geotechnical, Asia said: “The wins are a strong endorsement for the use of innovation and future-facing technology in the delivery of major infrastructure projects such as the KVMRT. We are proud to have played a role in enabling these wins, supporting MRT Corp. and MGKT in the various segments of Line 1 and Line 2.

Overall, KVMRT is a great example of AECOM’s collaborative delivery, operating across practice and offices.”

The awards were presented in conjunction with the GeoSmart Asia 2017 Conference in Putrajaya on Aug 22-24. First introduced in 2009, the Asia Geospatial Excellence Awards have become the most noteworthy recognition for stakeholders in this technological sector.

About KVMRT

The KVMRT is the largest public infrastructure development in the country to date and was planned to alleviate traffic congestion and to transform Kuala Lumpur into a world-class metropolitan city.

AECOM was engaged as Lead Consultant for the Northern Elevated section and Detailed Design Consultant for Underground Stations for Line 1, which is now in full operation since July 2017.

To ride on the success of Line 1, AECOM was engaged as lead consultant and awarded three out of seven detailed design packages for Klang Valley MRT Line 2. For KVMRT SSP Line 2, which include the underground works package, a technologically complex project that sets new standards in Asia. It is the first urban rail project in Asia requiring Level 2 BIM and a benchmarking BS1192 (2007) collaborative workflow using a Common Data Environment (CDE).

KVMRT is the single most important enabler for Klang Valley to become a world-class city centre and fulfil its role as the key generator of economic growth for the nation.
