We Energies awarded AECOM a contract to design-procure-build the phase 2 addition of the Port Washington Generating Station. The project team—craft workers, the contractor, and the owner—joined forces to safely and successfully construct a 545-megawatt natural-gas-fueled addition to the station in a picturesque village on the shores of Lake Michigan. AECOM also had design-build responsibilities for the first unit at Port Washington, an identical unit. AECOM engineering teams in New Jersey and Romania provided the design on both units.

The project is an OSHA VPP Construction start level participant and achieved more than two and one-half million hours without a days-away injury.

Port Washington Generating Station replaces the original historic station at that site. The old station, built in 1935 directly adjacent to Lake Michigan, consisted of five pulverized coal-fired units, each of 80 MW capacity.
