The Oak Creek Power Plant, located in Oak Creek, Wisconsin adjacent to Lake Michigan, is comprised of four operating Units. Units 5 and 6 have a combined net output of 527 MW; Units 7 and 8 have a combined net output of 612 MW.

AECOM installed Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems for NOx removal and Wet Limestone Forced Oxidation Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems for SO2 removal on all units. Two units tie into one air quality control system; the other two units tie into a separate air quality control system—essentially the project includes two scrubbers and two SCRs.

The congested site proved challenging. The FGD systems, limestone handling system, and chimney were constructed on a bluff. More than a mile of flue-gas ductwork weighing in excess of 7,500 tons was installed to connect the four generating units to the two SCR and two FGD systems.

This project was part of We Energies’ plan for meeting current and pending air quality improvement commitments and environmental regulations. Although these units were built in the 1960s, they remain among the most efficient base load plants in the Midwest.
