AECOM plays a leading and expanding role in providing research and engineering services to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). NETL is the only U.S. National Laboratory devoted to fossil-energy research and supports the nation’s mission to advance the national, economic, and energy security of the country. NETL programs are aimed at enabling domestic coal, natural gas, and oil to economically power the nation’s homes, industries, businesses, and transportation sectors in an environmentally conscious manner, while protecting the environment and enhancing U.S. energy independence.
The work supports NETL sites in Morgantown, West Virginia; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Albany, Oregon; Sugarland, Texas; and Fairbanks, Alaska. NETL’s reach extends to contracted research in 47 states and more than 40 foreign countries and the laboratory’s research portfolio includes more than 1,400 projects.
Along with private partners, a consortium of four universities is linked to the AECOM-led team. In addition, AECOM has exclusive agreements with 13 high-technology specialty subcontractors, many of whom are serving other on-site needs at NETL to ensure continuity of mission and access to unique energy capabilities.
