John Coons, AIA joins AECOM’s architecture practice as Managing Principal for the Southern California District.

John brings to AECOM over 40 years of experience in programing, planning and designing a broad range of projects for private, public and corporate clients across the United States. He holds a Master in Architecture from the University of New Mexico and Bachelor of Arts with Honors from Bowdoin College in Maine.

John fills an essential role in that regard and his experience will be extremely valuable,” said Ross Wimer, FAIA, Senior Vice President and Architecture Lead for the Design and Consulting Services Group, Americas.

At AECOM, John will provide his senior leadership in client outreach, strategic team building and design integration. John’s inclusive, interdisciplinary approach has resulted in projects notable for their contextual sensitivity, programmatic responsiveness, economy, commitment to sustainability, and award-winning design quality. 

His built projects include:  

  • The Field House and Pool at Bowdoin College, Maine; 
  • The Pomona Residential Suites at California State Polytechnic University; 
  • The Samoset Resort and Village, Maine; 
  • The Village at Centennial Square at San Francisco State University, California; and
  • The Maurice J. Gallagher Jr. Hall Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis.

In addition to his extensive portfolio, John has guest lectured at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and served as a guest juror on numerous design reviews. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Urban Land Institute, the Society of College and University Planners, and the U.S. Green Building Council.
