Located in south Romania’s industrial zone, Arpechim refinery was once one of the largest oil refineries in the country. Following its closure in 2011, our remediation team cleaned up two reservoirs on the site, which had been contaminated with sludge from the refinery’s processes. This involved excavating the reservoir sediments and using natural bacteria to break down the contamination by adapted on-site remediation techniques. This significantly reduced the quantity of contaminated sediments in the lakes, helping restore the site for future use.
