Sydney (August 26, 2017) — AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm, along with consortium partners Keolis Downer, CSIRO/Data61, JYW Consulting and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), will deliver a brand new on-demand transit service for people traveling to and from the City of Ryde/Macquarie Park precinct.

When the service is launched in early 2018, people within a 10-15 kilometre radius of the Macquarie Park precinct will be able to schedule, pay and track their entire journey to and from the precinct through a simple mobile app.

“This pilot is an exciting collaboration between the public and private sectors to develop fully flexible, innovative transit solutions for the people of New South Wales. It puts users in the driving seat and creates a more convenient, responsive and accessible transit service for this busy precinct,” said Roger Jeffries, transport advisory technical practice leader, AECOM Australia and New Zealand.

“The daily travel demands of commuters, students and shoppers travelling to and from the bustling Macquarie Park precinct make this a great location for an on-demand service of this type,” continued Mr. Jeffries. “The additional flexibility and convenience offered by a door-to-door service will complement existing public transport options, helping to reduce personal car usage, pollution and congestion.”

Delivered under the New South Wales (NSW) Government’s Future Transport Technology initiative, the pilot will provide valuable insights for the future development of similar services in NSW and beyond.

AECOM is providing transit planning, customer experience, marketing and data analytics services, as part of the consortium, to unlock the full value of the existing transport network, whilst personalising services to individual’s needs to create a better customer experience.

The service will operate a mid-sized shuttle bus fleet, providing a new comfortable, flexible and convenient travel option for thousands of people daily.

A similar trial, being developed by the same consortium, is also planned for the Northern Beaches, to provide a first mile/last mile service between residential suburbs and the new B-Line bus service.
