AECOM names Richard McKinney vice president of enterprise IT strategy for its Management Services group

The former U.S. Department of Transportation CIO will be responsible for providing AECOM’s Management Services’ clients with best-in-class systems engineering and information solutions

LOS ANGELES (April 26, 2017) — AECOM, a premier, fully-integrated global infrastructure firm, announced today that Richard McKinney has been appointed vice president of enterprise Information Technology (IT) strategy within AECOM Management Services group’s systems engineering and information solutions business.

Mr. McKinney has more than 30 years of comprehensive IT experience. Most recently, he served as chief information officer for the U.S. Department of Transportation. A senior advisor to the Secretary of Transportation on all IT-related issues, Mr. McKinney, managed a diverse team of approximately 300 federal and contract employees.

Prior to that, he was the senior fellow for the Center for Digital Government and Government Technology Advisor for Microsoft State and Local Government. Mr. McKinney began his career in 1987 with the State of Tennessee, serving in numerous departments which led to leadership roles with the Tennessee Department of General Services and the Tennessee General Assembly. In 1999 he was appointed chief information officer for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville, Davidson County.

Mr. McKinney has served on professional boards including Chairman of Metropolitan Nashville government’s Cable Access Television Committee. He is a published industry author and has received industry leadership recognition including FedScoop 50 / Federal Leadership Award (2014, 2015), Computerworld’s 2016 Premier 100, and Federal Computer Week’s Fed 100 (2016).

Mr. McKinney earned his Master’s in Public Administration and Bachelor of Science degrees from Tennessee State University.
