Facilitating collaboration to support the circular economy transition across infrastructure

As major infrastructure organisations seek pathways to embed circular economy thinking and low carbon solutions across the design and delivery of their programme and projects in this, the Climate Decade, collaboration across sectors and markets is increasingly vital.

The Forum for Circular Infrastructure* (FCI), founded and chaired by AECOM, brings together infrastructure owners and operators from across the UK and Ireland to share best practice, facilitate opportunities for collaboration and drive innovation to encourage innovative thinking on a fully circular infrastructure delivery.

We provide essential support in the transition to an infrastructure sector where waste is no longer an option, including:

  • Keeping resources in use for as long as possible
  • Extracting the maximum value from resources while in use
  • Embedding circular economy principles into the procurement and design of infrastructure assets
  • Recovering and regenerating products and materials at the end of life.

FCI provides a space for members to discuss current and emerging challenges and opportunities, and a collective voice to inform and shape future policy through responding to consultations, such as the Waste Prevention Programme for England, Scotland’s Circular Economy Bill and Delivering Scotland’s circular economy: A Route Map to 2025 and beyond.

Increasingly, we are seeking to forge greater links with academia and government bodies, acknowledging that a joint approach is required for large scale, systemic change to be achieved.
