We’ve provided several quality assurance (QA) services for BIM implementation on multiple programs at Denver International Airport.

We are currently providing full-time, on-site QA for the major capital improvement program, comprising the hotel and transit center, as well as all landside and airside civil infrastructure projects.

Over the past five years, we have provided BIM services on eight runway and apron improvement projects at the airport to ensure accessibility for all design partners and stakeholders.

With such a large site and complex central model, the site plans and models were distributed on tablet devices to limit paper plans and store new content centrally. The airport’s BIM based asset management solution is also now available to view on mobile devices. QR codes can be scanned to find out more information on a particular asset, and BIM has become the primary tool set for new and ongoing projects at Denver International Airport.

We’ve created a detailed intelligent model that informs all ongoing actions and is now used for maintaining the critical assets and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and security systems that run the airport. While this major expansion illustrated the full scope of a BIM project with transition to operations, Denver International Airport has also been using this approach to capture information in other parts of the airport on smaller projects.

The benefit of having a skeletal model in place is that we now have the capability to do detailed feasibility studies using the model. It is possible to design and scope a new element quickly which helps to jumpstart any future design work. The presence of the model to do the study eliminates the need to survey and measure and capture what’s there avoiding lengthy and expensive consultant time on future feasibility studies.
