AECOM has been shortlisted in the category for Planning Consultancy of the Year at the 2015 Planning Awards for Excellence.

AECOM’s Connswater Community Greenway Phase 1 project and the company’s work to support communities in neighbourhood planning were also recognised in this year’s shortlist across three different categories.

The Connswater Community Greenway Phase 1 project is shortlisted in both the Excellence in Planning for Community and Well-being as well as the Excellence in Planning for the Natural Environment categories. The scheme will reconnect communities in East Belfast, creating a nine-kilometre-long linear park along the Connswater, Knock and Loop Rivers.

AECOM’s work to support communities in neighbourhood planning across England is shortlisted in the excellence in plan making practice category. Under its contract with Locality, the nationwide network of community organisations, AECOM is supporting the delivery of hundreds of neighbourhood plans, which include the location of new housing and businesses.

The New Museums Site project in Cambridge and the Dun Laoghaire Harbour masterplan are two further projects AECOM is involved in that have been shortlisted for awards. AECOM is advising on the masterplan of the New Museums site for the University of Cambridge, a project to make sure the site that is part of the university campus is fit for the university in future years. AECOM’s services include environmental, energy and sustainability services, as well as mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering.

The Dun Laoghaire Harbour masterplan is a redevelopment scheme that aims to realise the harbour’s potential as a major marine, leisure, cultural and tourism destination, as well as secure its long-term viability.

The awards, run by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), will be held at the Pullman London St Pancras on 6 July 2015. AECOM is the headline sponsor for the event.

Andrew Jones, Practice Leader for Design, Planning Economics, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at AECOM said: “AECOM is proud to be shortlisted for planning consultancy of the year and to be recognised in a number of project categories, which recognise the contribution our consultants are making to the planning profession in the UK and Ireland. As headline sponsor of the awards, it is exciting to see such a diverse mix of outstanding examples of planning on the shortlist, and we look forward to seeing which entries the judges select as the category winners.”

Janet Askew, President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, said: “The shortlist reflects the very best planning projects, strategies and processes that are helping to make great places for people to live and work. The 80 finalists highlight exceptional examples of planning that have made an impact and brought considerable benefits. It will be a tremendous challenge picking individual category winners from such a high-quality field.”

Projects on the shortlist have been recognised for their national contribution to planning and demonstrate how significant schemes can be delivered speedily through the planning and other consents systems.
