AECOM-led All Bay Collective chosen for Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge

SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 20, 2017) — AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm, announced today that the All Bay Collective was selected as one of 10 teams to participate in the Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge. The challenge addresses the threats of sea level rise, severe storms, drought, flooding and earthquakes as well as issues of affordability and inequity in the Bay Area by bringing together local residents, public officials and local, national and international experts to develop innovative, community-based solutions that will strengthen the area’s resilience.

The All Bay Collective will bring renowned planners and designers, leading academics and imaginative students together with community members and public officials to generate ideas that are innovative and implementable to make the Bay Area more resilient and more inclusive. AECOM is excited to collaborate with CMG Landscape Architecture, University of California Berkeley – College of Environmental Design, Berkeley Center for New Media, the Terner Center, California College of the Arts, IDEO, Silvestrum, SKEO and Moll de Monchaux.

“There’s never been a more urgent time to address the resilience challenges faced by the San Francisco Bay Region,” said Stephen Engblom, AECOM’s senior vice president, Cities, who leads the All Bay Collective team. “Our team centers on a unique academic and professional collaboration that fuses science, design excellence, community outreach and technical innovation to make our Bay Area more responsive to the people who live here and sensitive to the environments we share.”

The Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge was modeled on New York’s Rebuild by Design program, pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. AECOM is leading the implementation of three Rebuild by Design projects. Resilient by Design will forge close ties with The Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) program, in which San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland are participants. AECOM is a strategy partner for 100RC, and under the leadership of Claire Bonham-Carter, principal, Sustainable Development, is assisting with resilience strategies for 30 cities.

“The Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge is a great opportunity to take what we have learned crafting resilience strategies from Oakland to Bangkok and apply it to design and policy interventions that will make our region stronger physically, economically and socially,” said Bonham-Carter.
