AECOM delivered multidisciplinary consultancy services for a major project to upgrade the E65 railway in Poland to accommodate high-speed operations. The line is a key transport route connecting the Baltic States with Southern Europe and the project upgraded 600km track from Warsaw to the country’s borders with the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The project was the first rail infrastructure modernisation scheme in Poland, and is expected to help boost economic development in the region by increasing both passenger and freight rail transport.

AECOM delivered services to Polish State Railways (PKP), the country’s state-owned railway provider, for the E65 upgrade. The route traverses varied terrain including open plains, mountains and areas damaged by mining. These all presented different design challenges when upgrading the line and involved specialists from across AECOM’s operations in Poland. The E65 railway line is part of one of the Pan-European Transport Corridors, a huge transport network that encompasses rail, road and waterway routes.
