Ronisha Hayden, Communications
Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) – West Los Angeles College, California
I’m a student at West Los Angeles College and am graduating this summer with an associate’s degree in communications. I intend to transfer to a four-year university to complete my bachelor’s degree.
My interest in relationship development and using various forms of media to reach and engage the public are my primary motivations for pursuing a degree in communications. Serving as a public relations intern at West Los Angeles College, I have generated increased student awareness of news, events and important deadlines using social media and the college’s online newsletter. For the video version of the online newsletter, I served as the news anchor and was selected as the spokesperson for West Expressway, the college’s video guide for its online orientation system.
Partnering with a fellow student, I also founded the Reachers Club, which is dedicated to the aptitude of public service. The club’s goal is to serve students who want to build and connect healthy communities. In addition, my activities include the Poetry Lounge, which was developed to give students an opportunity to openly express themselves once a month during each semester. The Poetry Lounge creates a platform to discuss controversial topics that evoke thought and change, and was featured in the publication Art Angels.
