Laura Casas, Mechanical Engineering

Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) – East Los Angeles College, California

I’m studying mechanical engineering at East Los Angeles College (ELAC). I chose this career path because it’s applicable to almost any type of industry, ranging from automotive and aeronautical to construction and education. I also love the “out-of-the box thinking” approach when attempting to problem solve, which I believe is the best attribute of an engineer. I would like a career where I can learn new things each day while using my creativity to make positive change in my community.

Being an ELAC student has been a great experience in my life. Not many community college students can say they’ve had the opportunity to construct a project using CAD software and engineering lab machinery. I highly value my professional relationships with my engineering and physics professors at ELAC because they’ve resulted in amazing work,  internship and scholarship opportunities that I’m immensely proud of.
