The construction phase of Hummingbird House, the state’s only children’s hospice, is now complete.

AECOM partnered with Hummingbird House to provide pro-bono structural design services for this project. The impact the eight-bed facility will have on the community is significant; it will provide round-the-clock medical assistance to children living with life-limiting conditions, while offering support to families.

Over the past six months, Hummingbird has welcomed nurses, medical practitioners, and a family support team as members of staff. Hummingbird House co-founders Paul and Gabrielle Quilliam said the facility is working towards a gradual safe opening, and is currently in a pilot phase for family referrals.

“We are deeply grateful to the team from AECOM for supporting Hummingbird House. Thank you for helping to create a medically supported home-away-from-home for children with life-limiting conditions, and their families,” they said in a joint statement.

Now construction is complete, AECOM’s Brisbane team has turned its attention to raising funds for Hummingbird House through the annual Bridge to Brisbane Fun Run on 28 August. With a target of $10,000, Team AECOM is in training for the event and has currently raised more than $1300 for the cause.
