AECOM provided site planning, architectural and interior design, sustainable design, and technology and security services for new police headquarters in Los Angeles, California. The new 491,000 square foot LAPD Headquarters includes police administration; investigative operations areas; a conference center and police commission hearing room; Motor Transport Division maintenance facility, and a computer comparison statistics (Compstat) command center. In addition, a café and auditorium are provided, along with substantial parking facilities for the public and station personnel.
The building is LEED registered and incorporates numerous green building elements, including recycled content building materials; energy saving daylighting design and lighting controls; a high-efficiency HVAC system; a large amount of locally produced materials; and water-efficient plumbing fixtures, irrigation system, and landscape materials.
Through collaborative evaluation, design, and review, the AECOM design team (which includes joint venture partner Roth+Sheppard Architects), the LAPD Bureau of Engineering, municipal stakeholders, and community members coordinated mutually successful solutions that promote a sense of openness and community between the LAPD and its surrounding neighborhood.
The LAPD Headquarters team was honored with the 2009 American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles, Building Team of the Year Award. The building has also been featured in numerous publications, including the Los Angeles Times and Monocle magazine.
